Trick of the Century*

Most of you don’t know that Vodafone offerred 1000 Free SMSs for anyone who will charge with any “Card” value in the pilot of this month, the offer was great really, I have no credit now and I’m just using these SMSs. The offer is for August only, so once it’s done, the rest of 1000 SMSs are gone!

I really knew by chance, when I was charging using the 10 EGP valued card, when I have been told that I will have the offer applied to my number in 24 hours, that was on Saturday 02^nd of this month. So, I told AnGel, My Mother, Biko and Psycho. AnGel got her card at night I think and she got the offer, but for my mother when she got her card just yesterday, she found that the offer is finished and it won’t apply for any extra numbers. I really got astonished, and I wondered why?!

I even started to think about the offer. I use “kalamna“, in which SMS costs 30 Piasters and a minute from a vodafone to vodafone 20 Piasters and for any other 40 Piasters. So, for me 1000 SMS costs 300 EGP and I think this is the least SMS price in all vodafone systems - “Super Dardasha for example, 39 pt -.

I was talking with my AnGel today, when we started to calculate, based on the following statistics - We Assumed -:

• Egypt Population: 70 Million - Which is less than actual number with almost 11 Million ** -
• Vodafone Users are: 10 Millions - Which is less than actual number with almost 5 Million *** -
• Only 500,000 Vodafone Users knew about the offer in the first 2 days - actual days offer was valid -
• And 9.5 Million Vodafone Users knew about the offer after it’s done and they didn’t know it’s done, so they went to charge their SIMs.
• 1000 SMS / 30 Days = almost 33 SMS/Day
• Average “ACTUAL” SMS/Day = 15 SMSs

So, 15 SMS/Day * 30 PT = 4.5 EGP and in 30 Days we will have 135 EGP, that will be used by only 500,000 people, that will result 67,500,000 EGP that vodafone might lose.

For the rest 10 Million Vodafone users, which will buy only 10 EGP card, which will result in 95,000,000 EGP, so vodafone will gain: 95,000,000 - 67,500,000 = 27,500,000 EGP!
