WordPress 2.9, Carmen

Post by: bingorabbit

A couple of days ago, the guys at Automattic announced the latest release of the mighty blogging platform; WordPress 2.9, Carmen – named after a Jazz vocalist Carmen McRae -. This release comes really with a lot of cool features like the one I really love, Trash. So, instead of the old dialogue, “You are about to delete this post..bla bla bla”, you can now just move it to trash, cause most of time you are really sure that you are deleting a post! Then you can permanently remove it from your trash, or as we can say, empty your trash.

One really amazing new feature, is multiple plugins upgrade with one click, it has been introduced in previous versions of the system, a one click upgrade button for the whole system upgrade, but now you can batch upgrade your outdated plugins in a really easy way, I’m even writing this post, while upgrading 7 plugins in the same time, WOW!

The awesomely and really promising new feature is the built-in image editor, which allows you to crop, flip, rotate or scale your images through your media library, I wonder what will be the next enhancement for such feature, and I really feel that there will be more options for image editing like B&W, Contrast, Saturation and Hue edits may be?

Easier video embeds, that allows you to embed your favorite videos from plenty of video websites like YouTube, Vimeo, Google Video and for sure WordPress.tv

Check out this video, which summarizes these features.

You also should have noticed the new buttons layout, it looks more sleek now. And the new Get Short Link under the post title input box when adding a new post.

Really amazing work, lovely system, I just love this platform really.

Actually I’m not a joomla fan, but I think with all introduced joomla plugins there should be one for image editing, and as long as we are developer we can contribute and build a built in one. :)
