Recently, I had a lot of problems with Fedora 10 x86_64, so I decided to move to Ubuntu, exploring this great operating system to have some new experience on anothafter more than 3 years of fedora!
I should tell, Ubuntu is really great, it’s fast, and really lite. I had no crashes since I installed it; really stable and everything is working smoothly!
I had a problem with the Desktop Effect, I couldn’t enable them by deafult, it used to tell me “Desktop effects couldn’t be enabled”, this was fixed by reloading Compiz Window Manager, and I did so through fusion-icon, simply right click on it and click Reload Window Manager, it will be better too if you became more sure by reselecting Compiz as your default Window Manager, and this can be done through fusion-icon too. you should also be sure that compiz itself is installed.
For those using twitter, which is really a great social service, and using DestroyTwitter you might find a problem after succesful installation of Adobe Air and DestroyTwitter, when you type in your user name and password trying to log into twitter using DT, you might get this error:
Make sure both fields are correct
and if you ran it from the shell, it comes to say:
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module “canberra-gtk-module”: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/libcanberra-gtk-module.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
You can simply solve this by installing lib32nss-mdns library, simply run:
sudo apt-get install lib32nss-mdns
and it will get fixed. It seems that the package came by deafult in hardy, but not in Jaunty. nss-mdns is a plugin for the GNU Name Service Switch (NSS) functionality of the GNU C Library (glibc) providing host name resolution via Multicast DNS (using Zeroconf, aka Apple Bonjour / Apple Rendezvous ), effectively allowing name resolution by common Unix/Linux programs in the ad-hoc mDNS domain .local.
I had no other problems as all, I’m loving the system and I think it’s one of the best! So, go on, give it a try it’s really great!
