Dear Ibrahim,

Thank you for applying to Google Summer of Code 2009. The proposal(s) you submitted were not selected for the program this year. We annually receive many more proposals than we are able to accept, and we would like to encourage you to apply again next year.

With best regards,
The Google Summer of Code Program Administration Team

So, I will apply again next year :) . I’m not sad at all, I’m really happy that I even took the step, it’s great experience even in thinking how the proposal should be written. My GSoC idea was proposed for WordPress, but I found it will be integrated in the upcoming 2.8 version of the system; this is really what made me happy that I’m thinking in the right path of how such organization’s developers like Automattic think. I’m really impressed with the other 8 accepted ideas WordPress will be mentoring, especially the Theme Framework for WordPress and A WYSIWYG Theme Editor/Generator for WordPress which are both close to each other.

The event organization to be built in WordPress will be great too, we missed that during organizing WordCamp Egypt, I really love this idea and I think it will launch a lot of websites that will be built especially for such purpose like EventBrite, which is really great for such event. This one (Extended WordPress Search Engine ), is really great and will give website visitors a great ability and ease of use for searching your website’s content.

Adding Photo Grouping by Album Functionality to WordPress, will be a great feature too, and will really be great if it was integrated greatly with the final GUI like what NextGen Gallery does. For performance you may find: Implement and profiling the MPTT technique for store hierarchical data in blogs with a lot categories and pages which might be really helpful with websites with a lot of data. And Modified Preorder Tree Traversal which aim to aim to implement modified preorder tree traversal for quicker sorting and display of hierarchical data in WordPress. Specifically this would help scale WordPress for sites with large numbers of deeply nested pages, categories, and comments.

So, good luck for me next time, and for Safwat too, he is the only one I know from Egypt who proposed an idea. Good luck for the accepted projects too, excellent work :)
