I was shocked when I had a look at my previous CV – now I can know why didn’t Google message me back last year :D , Joking! -. So I started to re-create it again, updating it with latest info I could tell, like my CairoIT’s training last year and that I’m in 3rd not 2nd year in the college, and then, I was shocked again!! :wtf: I found that I have developed no applications since my last contribution to dkSystems, all what I did was hacking come code here and there, installing some pre-created CMSs every now and then and this is something I really HATE!

I believe I’m pretty good with web administration and I think I have very good experience with most CMSs that have ever been introduced to web, how do they work, how can I customize them, hack them or even implement new features, but I didn’t do THAT contribution I can say to web. They are all stuff that you can’t find a way to put in your CV except in just two lines – or two lines and half :S -. I think this vacation will have a 180 change, I have to be more practical in my work, beside all I have some plans for my skills, especially my technical ones. JAVA, Linux – again?! – and more into PORTALS are some topics that is related to what I’m talking about. We can add to this my summer training which mostly will be at CairoIT again, I enjoyed being there last year and here I am again :) .

    hi …
I think writing a CV is not what you are looking for here but rather a Resume, there is quite a confusion between those two as there’s really a fine line to distinguish the difference between them. A CV is a description of your life’s work, more of an itemized BIO if you can catch my drift, on the other hand you got the Resume, which is the summary of your experiences and qualifications for a certain job you’re applying to, I know this might not be very clear difference either, but it sums up the real difference. I would recommend a small but rather very helpful book about writing resume “Resumes For Communications Careers” from McGraw Hill publishing house, the third edition, it will help you create a strong Resume for your upcoming career. One more advice I can give to you is since you enjoy “hacking” codes so much  , try to take a recruitment course, it will help you reverse-engineer the minds of HR personal and interviewers, this will help you get past the bullsh*t that happens within a job hiring process. best of luck on your career.

Hello Ahmed, Thanks for the note about the CV and resume and you are right, I just misused the term “CV” and I edited the topic’s title :)

I will search for the book, but about the recruitment course, any resources?!!

    Thanks for passing by :)

    hi Bingorabbit…

I actually took a course in that subject, so I guess the actual resource I have are some useless slides  . However, I’m sure that there should be some resources on the subject on the INTERNET… I’ll look for them, if I find any , I’ll come back and post ‘em. However, what I really meant is that you take an actual course (with an experienced recruiter teaching it), the reason for the suggestion is that most of the HR personal (specially in Egypt) do NOT apply the methodologies documented in their materials, but rather take personal intuitions when conducting an interview… that’s why it is important to “sort of” Reverse-engineer the interviewer(s) within an interview process, if you can “read” the interviewer’s personality, that would enable you to show the qualities that he/she is looking for in a candidate, and hence you get a better chance to get a job offer, that is the true gain of the course, training on how to read the “requirements for eligibility” of an HR personal on an actual recruiter (the teacher of the course). I know that my suggestion will somehow sound weird to you, but again it is what I found to be true throughout my professional experience.

@Ahmed: I totally agree with you, may be I didn’t have a lot of interviews before – almost 3 or 4 -, and most of them were not with professional HR managers, but I think most of them do what you have mentioned.

Can you please tell me more about the course?! also do you have the capabilities to present that course for Engineering students?!

    Hi Bingorabbit,
Sorry for my delayed reply, I’m pleased that you liked the book, ay 7′ed3a ya 3amy, pass it on to your colleagues so they can benefit from it as well. As for the course, it covers the process of recruiting/hiring from the preparation for job description, posting ads, candidates screening processes, conducting an interview, scoring/evaluating candidates on personal/social/technical levels, eliminations process, and final negotiations. However, as I have mentioned, the material of the course is somewhat not as important as practicing the interviewing process and reverse-engineering the recruiter involved. I like the idea of presenting something special for you and your colleagues, which is not just the content mentioned above ,but I’m going to extend it to the limits that an engineer should have. This mean that I’ll have to sit down and write it down in presentation format, and btw I’m an engineer as well so it’s not a problem for me to deliver the message for you guys . However, this will probably take sometime in preparation, and I’m pre-occupied at least for this month, but if it’s ok with you and your colleagues, we can set this for July and we can hold an online session to get through it, how does that sound?

  9. bingorabbit says:

Online session?!..can you please give me more information?!..

We can start with a seminar or something to let people know about the topic, I can handle this, and I know a lot of people who might be interested :)

  10. Ahmed says:

    Hi Bingorabbit,
I think a seminar is a much more load to pull, plus it would be very formal…. however, this is not my aim. I know we need to share this with a lot of people but however doing so as a starting point is probably going to be a disappointment, it takes time to polish such materials and bring it to a formal format, and hence it’s easier to take it trough smaller steps and enhance the effectiveness of the material and the delivery methods. On the other hand an online session through any interactive communication service ( such as Skype for example) with fewer audience (5 or 6 maybe) will help with working out the “obscure” parts of the material, and hence it makes much more sense to me, plus it’s more convenient than booking a seminar location, advertising, and coordinating for such an event. Maybe someday we’ll polish these materials enough to a point where a seminar is possible, and maybe then you and your colleagues can present it yourselves  …..
